Becoming a member

Becoming a member of Wells Community Hospital Management Ltd (WCHM) is simple and straightforward. Your application form will be reviewed at the next WCHM board meeting and after approval you are a member and begin to take part in decisions about your hospital.

WCHM is a company 'limited by guarantee'. This means that members are asked to give a guarantee of £1 which could be called upon if things went wrong and the company entered into liquidation or a winding up. This is the maximum that you could be called on to give, and no subscription is required to join. Members of companies limited by guarantee have similar powers to shareholders of companies limited by shares.

As a member you can attend the AGM, vote on important issues affecting your community hospital, and be eligible for appointment to office. The more people who join, the more powerful is our voice as a social enterprise. There are many organisations that have funds to support social enterprises and to whom we can apply help.

The Directors have expressed their determination to create a company structure which fully empowers the people of our community to participate in the decisions affecting the hospital. The Directors are required to retire by rotation; the election process for new directors takes place at the AGM and is determined by a vote of the Members.
