Renal Dialysis - The Mermaid Appeal
We have launched an appeal for a Renal Dialysis Unit that will help patients with serious kidney problems. This will also generate income for the hospital by providing holidaymakers who need dialysis and whose treatment will be paid for by their local NHS. The surplus income from this service will contribute significantly to the hospital’s current costs. Once we are registered, the Hospital Trustees are committed to the task of making this service available for local people who need it.
It will be called The Mermaid Centre in memory of Helen Geering of Burnham Overy Staithe. Tragically, Helen died in December as a result of complications following kidney failure. Her husband, Chris, suggested the symbol of the mermaid because so many people fondly remember her playing a mermaid in the very popular End of the Pier show in Burnham Overy Staithe. The Geering family are all actively involved in our fundraising campaign
Initially the Mermaid Centre will provide holiday dialysis for a potential 16,000 people over the UK who cannot visit this beautiful coast because they are tied to a dialysis service near their home. This service will also generate income for the hospital as their treatment will be paid for by their local NHS. The surplus income from this service will contribute significantly to the hospital’s current costs. Once we are registered, the Hospital Trustees are committed to the task of making this service available for local people who need it.
