Renal Dialysis - The Mermaid Appeal

An appeal was launched for the development of a Renal Dialysis Unit to provide patients from throughout the UK an alternative place to come for dialysis. We are pleased to say that the sum initially proposed of £126000 has been successfully raised and the Mermaid Centre for Renal Dialysis is up and running.  Thank you to everyone who has supported this wonderful cause.  As a charitable trust we continue to fund raise for the hospital.

The Mermaid Centre is in memory of Helen Geering luof Burnham Overy Staithe. Tragically, Helen died in December as a result of complications following kidney faire. Her husband, Chris, suggested the symbol of the mermaid because so many people fondly remember her playing a mermaid in the very popular End of the Pier show in Burnham Overy Staithe.  The Geering family are to be congratulatd in their untiring efforts for the fundraising campaign.

Initially the Mermaid Centre will provide holiday dialysis for a potential 16,000 people over the UK who cannot visit this beautiful coast because they are tied to a dialysis service near their home. This service will also generate income for the hospital as their treatment will be paid for by their local NHS. The surplus income from this service will contribute significantly to the hospital’s current costs. We are now registered with the Care Quality Commisson.

If you would like to support the hospital  you can make a donation, organise an event or take part in a sponsored run, walk etc, or visit http://www.justgiving.com/Helen-Geering-Mermaid-Centre.
