Clinics and Services available at Wells Community Hospital
It is our intention to host NHS clinics and those free at the point of delivery wherever possible. However many of these clinics are not presently available under the NHS, and therefore are 'self pay'. In many cases factoring in the immediacy of being seen, and the cost and inconvenience of travel to district hospitals will make them cost effective. See also: Dementia Hub Activities.
If you have an abdominal aortic aneurysm you will not generally notice any symptoms.
Men aged 65 and over are eligible for AAA screening, the NHS invites men for AAA screening during the year they turn 65. Men over 65 who have not been screened previously can arrange a screening appointment by contacting their local programme directly. Screening involves an ultrasound scan that takes around 10 minutes, the NHS AAA Screening Programme aims to reduce deaths from ruptured AAA amongst men aged 65 and over by up to 50%
What is screening?
If you have an abdominal aortic aneurysm you will not generally notice any symptoms. This means that you cannot tell if you have one, as you will not feel any pain or notice anything different.
The NHS offers screening in order to find aneurysms early so they can be checked regularly or treated if needed. The easiest way to find out if you have an aneurysm is to have an ultrasound scan of your abdomen.
The NHS AAA Screening Programme was introduced after research showed it should reduce the number of deaths from burst aneurysms among men aged 65 and over by up to 50%.
Screening is a process of identifying apparently healthy people who may be at increased risk of a disease or condition. They can then be offered information, further tests and appropriate treatment to reduce their risk and/or any complications arising from the disease or condition.
The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) assesses the evidence for screening programmes against a set of internationally recognised criteria to ensure screening does more good than harm.
The UK NSC website includes an animated explanation of the screening process and a screening timeline showing optimum ages for screening throughout a person's life.
Sarah Pond Norfolk & Waveney AAA Screening Programme Coordinator advises men who are older than 65 and have never had screening or treatment for a AAA they can request to be screened by contacting their local programme on 01603 288218 or email the programme administrator Nicholas Loveridge at email@example.com

Gentle holistic manipulation of the body to resolve a wide range of complaints
Classical Manipulation is a non-invasive, whole-body treatment. Practitioners use their hands to realign the spine and other joints of the body. With only gentle adjustments, the technique is effective in relieving pain, reducing stiffness, and reinstating the balance and integrity of the musculo-skeletal system.
This complementary, holistic approach restores nerve function and enables the individual optimal recovery.

Horticultural Therapy Outreach Programme based in our sensory gardens
Wells Community Hospital Trust and The Nurture Project are launching, in partnership, a new gardening programme supporting adults living with mild to moderate mental ill health in February 2018.
The Nurture Project aims to provide a year-round horticultural therapy outreach programme based at the Wells Community Hospital Trust, whereby supervised gardening can be used to promote adult mental and physical wellbeing in a safe and friendly environment.
Wells Community Hospital Trust offers a wide range of flexible and integrated health and wellbeing services for the community it serves.
Horticultural Therapy is an innovative and creative approach to helping people living with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety or stress. The programme offers the opportunity of small group work in the beautiful gardens at Wells Community Hospital Trust. We will be operating with a recognised outcome model, which will allow our trained therapists to build a set of activities for each group member to improve their particular health needs, and to work on clear therapeutic goals.
The new pilot programme commences on 27th Feb 2018 and will offer a variety of gardening experiences, as well as indoor horticultural activities.
The programme will be accepting applications from December 2017, and prior gardening experience is not a requirement.

Next Meeting- Wednesday 17th October at 10.45am to 12pm.
What Is Men's Shed ?
Men’s Sheds (or Sheds) are similar to garden sheds – a place to pursue practical interests at leisure, to practice skills and enjoy making and mending. The difference is that garden sheds and their activities are often solitary in nature while Men’s Sheds are the opposite. They’re about social connections and friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter.
